Pakistan’s energy sector has always been a constant source of trouble for its economy.  The last quarter (October – December) of 2020 witnessed significant developments in this sector where the circular debt jumped to new heights with every passing month.

The crisis in the gas sector has also emerged these days leading to multiple problems for the consumers and the government alike; an acute shortage of gas during the peak winter season, the LNG scandal and the emergence of circular debt in this sector as well. In another development, Pakistan’s Prime Minister announced at the virtual climate summit 2020 to abandon coal-based power production in the future.
